My situation’s not alot different than yours, probably – I’ve had a pretty bad run over the last year. Self-employeed trying to get going in this economy, savings are going FAST and unsecured debt out of control! My hubby got injured too-motocross racing and while we had some insurance, it didn’t make up for the fact that he’d lost his job. Next thing I know… we’re behind and late on mortgage payments and staring straight down the barrel of foreclosure if we couldn’t get caught up!! I didn’t know what to do and alot of friends and family have given us answers all telling me something different.(Aarrgghh!)
Don’t even get me started on the media - saying the economy is doomed and just to wait 3-5 years hoping it will recover?!? What about all the commercials stating their way is best when I can tell now when they’re just trying to sell me on the most expensive service! I’ve been on alot of forums looking for the right solutions to my problems and I finally managed to find someone who can help, is concerned about my situation and is willing to stick with me for the long haul!
In about a year, I’ve almost completely ELIMINATED 100% of my unsecured and credit card debt – about $68,000 in total and should soon be rid of the rest. My FICO score is amazing – increasing over 145 points!!! Creditors have stopeped calling me, I am on the path to paying off my house (COMPLETELY) in 5-7 years and best of all, I did NOT have to resort to Debt Settlement!!! (Yea!!!) I was so close and it would have cost me about $30,000 to $40,000 had I gone that route.
Yes Debt Settlement is one alternative, but knowing what I now know…I am forever grateful that I didn’t. I have a friend of mine in New York where because of the laws – don’t even OFFER debt settlement, so she was basically screwed! I turned her onto the guys that helped me and they’re on the way to being debt-free as well and they were in worse shape than me!
